Helping With Horsepower Bike Rebuild Program – 2nd project at the Abbott House in Mitchell SD
When you look at the photos, you see and feel the stories. The Helping With Horsepower Bike Rebuild Program is designed to teach life lessons using a motorcycle as a tool. Through hands-on/project based learning, a volunteer facilitator leads troubled and at-risk youth through transforming a motorcycle, just like they are transforming their lives. The program began at the Abbott House in Mitchell, SD, from Laura Klock’s desire to work more closely with the girls that are in treatment there. It has grown into a nationally recognized program, running in many locations across the US in just two short years.
Congratulations to Steve Clark of GF Advertising from Mitchell, SD! He is the winner of Mosaic — the beautiful 2006 Harley Davidson Electra Glide redesigned by the Abbott House girls during the Abbott House Helping with Horsepower program.
The women’s Harley Davidson leather jacket winner is Jan Yu from Augusta, Georgia. David Boltjes from Adrian, Minnesota is the winner of the men’s Harley Davidson leather jacket. The leather jackets were sponsored by J& L Harley Davidson, Sioux Falls, SD and Black Hills Harley Davidson, Rapid City, SD.
This project would not be possible without the community support, sponsors and all of the ticket purchasers. Your support changes the lives of children.
The Motorcycle Rebuild Project raised nearly $76,000 and will be used to support the Abbott House education program. Read more about how this project is helping the Abbott House.
